International Student Diplomat

During Summer 2016, I started working as an International Student Diplomat at Santa Fe College. As a Diplomat, my primary concern is the well-being of Santa Fe's international students. I assist them with their paperwork and with any concern they may have regarding their life at Santa Fe. In addition to providing walk-in advising for prospective and current international students, we organize a few events each semester. The most important one is the New International Student Orientation I co-host at the beginning of every semester. During this orientation, we give new students important information that will help them not only for their time at Santa Fe, but for their whole academic carrer in the United States.

I went to high school in an international school, so I grew up thinking my life was normal. I grew up thinking that speaking numerous languages, having family members in many different countries, and feeling a strong patriotism towards two countries was normal. But as the time passed, I realized we —the international students — were a very lucky and very rare kind of children. Through my job as an International Student Diplomat, I want to help student like me to feel welcome in their adoptive country, so they can make the most of their years as international students in the U.S. In return, they help me expand the multicultural education my parents gave me.
